SoJones.com features many rising streetwear labels from their humble beginnings, but only a handful actually have staying power. One of the brands that pushes through many things, including the bad economy, the fierce competition and keeps on coming up with great stuff is Brooklyn Bandit a.k.a. BKB. Since our last encounter back in April 2010, the brand is back with its latest collection. Let’s do a check up on them: SoJones.com talks to Niket Pandya from BKB.
Hello Brooklyn Bandit, you guys haven’t stopped being creative and our readers here at SoJones are crazy about your products. What have you guys been up to?
Thanks for the support. We’ve just been enjoying the ride! Since BKB has started it’s been crazy, just designing and crafting new denim, marketing our products, production, the list goes on. Even though we’re busy, we enjoy every minute of it because this is what we’ve always wanted to do.
We checked your line over at Karmaloop and hello, do we see ladies denim? Will we see more of BKB ladies?
Definitely. Like I’ve mentioned before, the women’s market is something our brand has always wanted to get involved in, and last season we launched eye-wear for women and got a great response. This season we released just 2 jeans for ladies, very simple and comfortable jeans just to see how the reaction would be; and it’s great. Yeah definitely expect more ladies products in 2011.
What’s the hottest BKB item that’s been flying off the shelves this season, and what do you recommend for SoJones readers?
The Work jeans have been selling like crack. They have a tailored fit to them, very durable 11.oz denim, and a nice wash. If you want to go with something more flashy, then the Profit jeans would be a good choice. The Profits are made with a grey overdye wash on Turkish denim cotton, and feature black zippers and copper studs, and that contrast is very eye catching.
We also see that you’ve branched out into accessories with your mad sunglasses collection. Any plans to go further? Shoes maybe?
Yes. We definitely have some pieces for the Spring time that we’ve been working hard on, and I have no doubt that the people will want to get their hands on them. Nobody on our team has ever worked in the foot wear industry so probably not. But, that’s a great idea.. I’m gonna have to find a shoe designer!
So you guys started BKB in 2008 and have been doing great. Any advice for SoJones readers who are thinking to start their clothing line out there?
Be consistant and do not give up. It took more than 1 year of getting rejected by everyone before anyone even gave BKB a chance, and we kept pushing forward, and that’s why were here tonight. Get a head start in the industry by interning or try to get your foot in the door however you can. When you launch your line, save your money! Remember, pennies make dollars.
Here’s a little teaser for you, Brooklyn Bandit fans: expect something HUGE in 2011 from the denim line which will involve… YOU. Be sure to check in here at SoJones.com everyday so you won’t miss your chance. Afterall, the new year is just a matter of days away!
In the meantime, you can get some really cool gear from Brooklyn Bandit via our Friday giveaways! Read on:
