Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
I’m Vanya Buvac, founder of The Cadence Watch Company. Cadence started in 2002 when I started making and selling a specialized stroke counter for rowers out of my dorm room in Cambridge MA. Eventually we turned the stroke counter into a watch, and in 2010 we started using our 8 years of experience in making precision timepieces to make watches for other niches.
Describe this season’s theme for your timepiece. Include any sources of inspiration
Meaningful minimalism is our overarching design philosophy. This season we introduced the 4:20 line, because many of our customers need to know when 4:20 rolls around.
We have also introduced the 4-Bit line of watches that are simple and stylish. At first glance they look like an ordinary sophisticate watche, but when you look closely you will notice the hour markets are in 4-Bit binary code – the system of 1’s and 0’s that all computers rely on. It is a classy watch wear on any occasion, while geek enough to show your membership into a elite group of techies.
Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
We think that all of our customers are celebrities.
What kind of Cadence Watch a guy should have that’s suitable for work and play in one day?
The Wrist Rocket is the ultimate play watch. It’s huge, so the display is easy to read while you are ripping it or whatever. It’s also very light, and it sits on the wrist really snugly. Unlike many other sports watches it won’t jiggle around when you are moving; the Wrist Rocket stays put.
Our 4:20 and 4-Bit watch is are great watches to wear on any occasion – during business meetings and black tie events to lunch dates and running errands. Our watches are never out of place no matter what you are doing.
The unique thing about these watches is they are great conversational pieces because you might be surprised who knows the significance of 4:20 and who can read 4-bit binary.
Any watch maintenance tip?
Don’t let your friend “try on the watch because they are so stylish and sleek you just might never get it back.
What clothing brand do you think goes best with Cadence Watch?
Bonobos slacks and Warby Parker glasses are both innovative and stylish brands that complement Cadence watches perfectly.
TuPac or Biggie?
I cannot choose one, so I am going to have represent both TuPac and Biggie. They are both legends.
