On Wednesday, May 2, 2012, former B2K member Omarion joined forces with the industry’s biggest boss, Rick Ross, and signed with his label. The announcement was made on BET’s 106 and Park yesterday, and many people were shocked. As Rick Ross explained it, “It really boiled down to the music. He came down to Miami, we got in the studio. He recorded close to a dozen records and I was just so impressed.”
Omarion, born Omari Ishmael Grandberry, now Maybach O, is a singer, dancer, actor, songwriter, and producer. He is the former lead singer of the pop/R&B group B2K. He is also the eldest of seven children and grew up in California.
After the breakup of his boy band, B2K, Omarion went on to lead a successful solo career, giving his fans albums such as O, 21, Face Off, and Ollusion. He also dropped a mixtape in 2011 entitled The Awakening, which was presented by DJ Drama. But his career has not been limited to just music. He has starred in several movies, such as You Got Served and Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.
Now that Omarion is an adult, it will be interesting to see how he transforms not only his music but his image. His signing with the hottest label in the business will probably prove to be beneficial to his career. He was signed with YMCMB, but his career/tenure at that label was short lived. He is the first R&B act the Maybach Music Group has signed. When asked about signing with MMG, Omarion had nothing but praises for Ross, saying, ” . . . More than anything, I really respect and I really like the way he moves like a boss.” Apparently, Omarion is going to record an EP soon. He has also already filmed a video for his first single, entitled “Let’s Talk,” featuring Rick Ross. Do you think this was a good move for the R&B singer Omarion?
