Fashion to a “Wendy Williams Contribution Smart T” sums up the top style that Hangtags For Humanity (HTFH) and Apple Bottoms will launch on February 1st, 2007. During their Wednesday morning press conference at the Apple Bottoms showroom on Broadway, in NYC, they announced, “A limited edition of 1,000 tees in Hangtag’s signature hue, hot pink, will be available on their website, www.applebottoms.com, at a retail price of $36. Proceeds will benefit the “What Smart Girls Know” campaign.”
The “What Smart Girls Know” campaign was designed by Tonya Miller, founder of Hangtags For Humanity. Inspired by the loss of a friend to breast cancer, she realized the need to offer important information and knowledge to young women through her nonprofit agency. In the past, she has worked with Madonna and Stephen Tyler on AIDS projects. For this campaign, she has teamed up with Wendy Williams, the superstar radio personality on WBLS 107.5 who attracts lots of young women listeners to her WBLS radio show. Williams is also an author and VH1 TV talk show host.
A Brooklyn resident, Tonya Miller wants to encourage and reward positive social change among young women ages 16-24. These young women are encouraged to apply for grants that range from $500 to $5,000 through one of the HTFH nonprofit partners. Awards are granted to those who have taken action on issues that impact their lives and their communities within six categories: Positive Voice for Change, Safe Sex Behavior, Environmental Issues, Education, Healthy Choices and Entrepreneurship.
During the early part of this fall/winter season, Hangtags launched the “Smart Girl” jeans in addition to beauty products and accessories. The tees will also be available to retailers and editors at the Apple Bottoms booth at the Magic Trade Show.
Apple Bottoms is a clothing line that caters to females of all shapes and sizes. Apple Bottoms’ mission is to celebrate and liberate the natural curves of a woman’s body. The brand is owned by the multi-platinum recording artist/superstar Nelly.
