10. Tarzan the Ape Man (1981)

Tarzan The Ape Man

Based on the novel Tarzan of the Apes, this film starred Bo Derek and Miles O’Keefe. This movie is actually a box office hit. But it is among the most hated movies of critics because of its poor screenplay, unintentional humor, and bad acting. As a matter of fact, this film was nominated six times at the 2nd Golden Raspberry Awards.

9. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)

Superman IV The Quest for Peace (1987)

This 1987 film was the last of Christopher Reeves’ appearance as Superman. And of all the films of the Superman franchise, it was the lowest grosser. Critics hate the movie because of its cheesy special effects. This film also appeared on the list of Empire and MRQE’s 50 Worst Movies of all time. It also gained two Razzie nominations.

8. Mac and Me (1988)

Mac and Me (1988)

Mac and Me was loosely based on another, and by far more successful movie, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. Film critics didn’t like it because of its highly commercialized nature. The movie was used as a marketing vehicle for McDonalds and Coca-Cola, with Ronald McDonald being given a full scene exposure. More than just nominations, this movie actually won two Razzies, such as the Worst Director award for Stewart Raffill and Worst New Star in a Small Cameo award for you know who.

7. Highlander 2: The Quickening (1991)

 Highlander 2 The Quickening (1991)

Highlander was a cult film that was also turned into a TV series. Incidentally, the film’s second sequel is nothing less than appealing. Critics say the second installment was a full contradiction to the film’s origins and internal logic.

6. Striptease (1996)

Striptease (1996)

If you think that a film from Demi Moore couldn’t be most hated, think again. Although slated as a comedy-drama, the film was met by critics as boring and humorless. This film gained six major Razzie nominations, including Worst Actress and Worst Screen Couple for Moore.

5. The Hottie and the Nottie (2008)

The Hottie and the Nottie

Not everyone likes Paris Hilton or her acting, so it seems. This romantic comedy is supposed to make Paris a true-blue Hollywood gal but it backfired on her. Tagged as the Worst Actress in the Worst Movie ever created, everything just seemed too harsh for the hotel heiress. Some critics even went beyond extreme, saying that this film is the most embarrassing and wretched movie ever created, and was a waste of time and energy for all the people involved in it.

4. The Avengers (1998)

 The Avengers (1998)

Based on the 1960s TV series of the same title, Warner Bros. was on the movie critics’ bad side early on after refusing an early press screening for this film. They eventually gave in but they edited so much out before the release. The result is an unhappy group of movie watchers that can only say, “Awful!”, when asked about the film.

3. Batman and Robin (1997)

Batman and Robin (1997)

If the Superman franchise has a black sheep, Batman unfortunately, has one too. The all-star cast of George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman, Chris O’Donnel and Alicia Silverstone proved to be no match for the meticulous taste of the critics. They all say that director Joel Schumacher and his mindless jokes were to blame.

2. Catwoman (2004)

Catwoman

Halle Berry fans will be flabbergasted to know that one of her films made it to the worst movies list. Worse, she actually won the Razzie Worst Actress award for it. Good thing she already had an Oscar two years prior. The movie was so bad it also won Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay. Although based on the DC Comics antagonist of the same name, Berry’s Catwoman was very different from the original.

1. Gigli (2003)

 Gigli

This movie actually had an all-star cast. It starred Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Al Pacino and Christopher Walken. However, this supposed-to-be-romantic-comedy-that-forgot-the-romance-part film that stared the then couple proved to be a flop, just like what their marriage has been. With seven Razzies under its wing and top critics calling it the worst movie of all time, it is kind of easy to really hate this movie.
